He was my good friend for nearly half a century.
I also know that he was a member of your group so I wanted to pass this information along.
Funeral arrangements have not been made as of this date.
He had flulike symptoms for a couple of weeks. I called him last Monday and he sounded very bad. I told hime to call a cab and immediately go to Mount Sinai or NYU in Manhattan.
He went to a local UrgentCare Center on Friday but according to Bill they simply took a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia. They apparently did not take a blood test or perform an EKG despite his added complaints of chest pain.
I called him several times during the week but was surprised to see that his voicemail was eventually full.
I called his place of employment last Friday and was told that they have not heard from him since Monday.
Needless to say this was very unusual since I’ve known Bill to go to work even when ill. He would also never neglect calling in on those rare occasions that he could not make it. He really believed in an old fashioned work ethic.
As a friend he entrusted me with the keys to his home since he has recently become prone to losing them.
I left work today and took a cab to his house.
He did not respond to the door. I used his keys to gain entry and found him on the second floor landing.
Since he has no living relations his remains were taken to the City morgue.
Despite my pressuring him for some time he also has no will or other directives for the distribution of assets.
In all likelihood a Public Administrator will have to be appointed so that whatever bank accounts may exist can to located and tapped to at least afford a proper burial.
I know he had many friends in your group and often spoke about how much he enjoyed the monthly meeting.
Please notify all of his passing since I do not have their contact information.
